Natalie Harris Recruits Diversity Moot Court Competitors With Help From Program Alums

October 2022

This week BHH’s Natalie Harris was joined by attorney Jerrilyn Gumila and David Reyes at UIC Law School in downtown Chicago to meet with diverse students interested in competing in this year’s American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law Diversity Moot Court Competition. Natalie is a member of the Governing Committee of the Forum, the section of the ABA dedicated to those who practice in the field of media law, including print, broadcast, digital media, advertising and telecommunications. She is also the co-chair of the Forum’s Annual Diversity Moot Court Competition committee. The mission of the Competition is to introduce diverse law students to the practice of media law and to lawyers active in the communications bar. Natalie mentored Ms. Gumila and Mr. Reyes in 2018, when they were students at UIC Law School competing in the Forum’s Diversity Moot Court. They advanced to the finals and Ms. Gumila received an award for her oral advocacy. Both Ms. Gumila and Mr. Reyes have become successful lawyers, and they credit the Competition as a valuable experience during their law school careers. The deadline to apply for this year’s competition in October 14, 2022. Finalists receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Forum’s annual conference in New Orleans in February to compete before sitting members of the judiciary. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning team as well as the best brief and best oralist. Please spread the word to diverse law students in your network with an interest in media.
