BHH Takes ABA Forum on Communications Law Annual Conference by Storm

February 2024

BHH’s Brendan Healey and Natalie Harris headed to Santa Barbara earlier this month to escape the cold and participate in the ABA Forum on Communications Law Annual Conference. “See your breath” temperatures and torrential downpours did not dampen the mood (only the feet). Brendan led a lively discussion as a panelist for the Hot Issues in Social Media & Advertising workshop focusing on revisions to the FTC Endorsement Guides, changing rules for subscription auto-renewals and emerging legal issues arising from AI. Natalie participated in the Forum Governing Committee meeting and co-chaired the 16th Annual ABA Forum on Communications Law First Amendment & Media Law Diversity Moot Court Competition Committee. The Competition Committee was honored to welcome three sitting members of the judiciary who voluntered to serve as judges for the Competition finals in Santa Barbara: Hon. Gabriel Fuentes (U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois); Hon. Jonathan Rosenbloom (Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles) and Hon. Kim Wardlaw (U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit). The Competition finalists demonstrated extraordinary preparation and skill arguing on behalf of a fictitous school district and students battling over a hypothetical book ban statute. Thank you all the volunteers who made the Competition possible, and congratulations to the finalists and winners.
