BHH Hosts Author Jonathan Eig In Conversation With Chicago Reader CEO & Publisher Solomon Lieberman

April 2024

BHH would like to extend a warm thank you to all of our friends, colleagues and clients who joined us for an engaging afternoon of conversation to benefit The Reader Institute for Community Journalism. We were honored to host acclaimed Chicago journalist, biographer and author of six books, including King: A Life (2023), in conversation with Chicago Reader CEO and publisher Solomon Lieberman. For 53 years, the Chicago Reader has been Chicago’s “diary and soul”–and a bellwether for independent journalism nationwide. The nonprofit Reader Institute for Community Journalism was founded in 2020 with a mission to modernize and drive sustainable impact for the Reader and to guide progress for the local journalism ecosystem nationwide. King: A Life sheds light on King the human being, and his wife Coretta Scott King, whose personal story has remained mostly in the shadows. Eig urges readers to push past King as an icon and a symbol, and to understand him through his ideas, his writings and his unrelenting commitment to social justice rooted in his religous beliefs. Longtime friends Eig and Lieberman demonstrated the importance of King’s message from his final work, that “our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.”
